Mathe. Kolloquium: Prof. Andreas Defant (Oldenburg): Harald Bohr's vision -- yesterday and today
Abstract:
At the beginning of the last century Harald Bohr initiated a fruitful study of ordinary Dirichlet series $\sum_n a_n n^{-s}$, interpreting them as power series $\sum_\alpha c_\alpha z^\alpha$ in infinitely many complex variables. This visionary viewpoint motivated many of his then most prominent mathematical contemporaries to join his research (among others Hardy, Landau, Littlewood, Toeplitz, and M. Riesz). Nowadays Bohr's vision is enjoying a renaissance due to the simple fact that today more advanced analytical tools are available. We plan to sketch a few aspects of this development.
