Dissertation

Understandability, actionability, and fairness: Responsible design of clinical decision support systems (CDSS)

The PhD focuses on enhancing the transparency of AI-enabled CDSS to ensure clinicians can interpret system outputs and use them appropriately. It assesses how to provide information that is relevant, accessible, and comprehensible to clinical end-users in accordance with the EU AI Act. The research includes a scoping review, a mixed methods study to explore user needs, and a factorial survey to assess how transparency features influence relevance and usage. The findings aim to inform the design of transparent CDSS for safe and effective clinical implementation.
