VPN at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science using Mac OS 10.7 "Lion"
"How To" create a VPN connection to the departmental network.
The VPN connection is necessary to connect to the Internet or access departmental IT resources via WLAN. It can also be used cable-based with the "green dot" network ports that can be found in some of the offices and pool rooms here at the department.

System Settings ... > _Network > '+' (choose VPN
Type PPTP!)
How To Create a VPN Connection - Step by Step description
- Klick the Apple symbol in the upper left corner of the finder. In the drop-down menu, choose System Settings ....
- Click the + symbol in the lower left corner underneath the column with the interfaces and connections in order to create a new VPN connection.
- Choose "Anschluss" VPN
- Choose as "VPN Type" PPTP
- Enter the following values:
Configuration:
VPN MILan
(or any name of your choice)
Server address:
vpn.mi.fu-berlin.de
Username:
username
(your FU accountname)
Encryption:
Maximum (128 bit only)
- Click Authentification settings....
Choose the option 'Password' and paste the VPN password you got from
https://portal.mi.fu-berlin.de .
- Choose 'More Options ...'
- Tab Options :
- Achten Sie darauf, dass das Häkchen bei Gesamten Verkehr über die VPN-Verbindung senden gesetzt ist.

- Tab TCP/IP :
- IPv4 configuration: PPP
- IPv6 configuration: Local-Link
- Finish and close the window by clicking the 'OK' button
- Finish the procedure by clicking on the 'Apply' button to the lower right
