Meeting/Consultation minute - 18-03-2014

Discussed Topics:

  • Genovo: Genovo is written in C++.

  • Other metagenomic assemblers: Metavelvet, an extension of Velvet based on finding eulerian path on De Bbruijn graph.

  • Knime: **Has a lot of features for data mining. **It is also integrated with nodes for diffrent OpenMS and Seqan projects. **Stephan will work on infrustructure support (5yrs) for the OpenMs, Sequan and KNIME.

  • Other areas to take a look at: **Metaproteomics **Proteogenomics

  • Courses: **Sequence Analysis

Conclusion:

Try everything from assembling a metagenome, using proteins for identifying population dynamics in samples, and make a secondary data analysis using machine learning and statstics. Then prioritize according to interest. And Start working on the topics down in the list until we find a good and sound one. We will do semister based progress report. Let's explore for the next 3 more months and by the end of this year we will settle on a topic.
