Autonomous vehicles will be propelled electrically in the future. However, limited battery capacity and long charging durations will be the main obstacles for a wide acceptance. But who says that electric cars need an outlet for charging? Tim Landgraf, Professor at the Dahlem Center for Machine Learning and Robotics at the Freie Universität Berlin, wants to enable electric vehicles to transfer their charge during the journey. Autonomous taxis, for example, could be operated without an multiple hours long business break. And for all the other users the smart, charging swarm would represent a safety net that protects them from range anxiety.
