Usable Security and Privacy
Maija Poikela received her PhD on the topic of perceived privacy in location-based systems from the Quality and Usability Lab at TU Berlin, Germany in 2019. She obtained her M.Sc. degree in Signal Processing and Communications Engineering from Tampere University of Technology, Finland, in 2010, focusing on subjective quality and the human perception of stereoscopic videos. Her research focuses on usable privacy – the intersection of human users and technology – assessing the challenges posed by collection, processing, and distribution of personal information. She conducts empirical research in which she assesses the effect of various factors such as context on privacy perception and privacy attitudes, and their influence on security and privacy-related behaviour. Since August 2019 she works on the topics of usable privacy and security at the department of Secure Systems Engineering at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security AISEC.
