Neighborhood models on point sets
Abstract: Points have been considered as a representation primitive in geometry processing since the 1980s. Their advantages are for example that they account as an answer to the increasing complexity of other surface descriptions like polygonal meshes and appear to be the natural output of 3D acquisition processes. A significant challenge however is the missing connectivity among them when they are used to represent surfaces. Therefore, equipping points with discrete manifold structures makes the generation of connectivity among them mandatory. In this talk we discuss how neighborhoods on point sets are being established and used, and talk about difficulties they entail.
