Wir sind wieder Teil des crescendo-Festivals des UdK Berlin. 76% der von Orchestern weltweit gespielten Werke sind von weißen, toten Männern. Das wollen wir ändern! Kommt – neben anderen tollen Konzerten des Festivals – auch zu unserem!

Das Piano Trio von Dika Newlin wird leider nicht aufgeführt werden; wir setzen uns jedoch mit ihrer Person und ihrem Werk auseinander. Es wird eine Einführung in das Leben der Komponistin, Musikwissenschaftlerin, Professorin, Pianistin, Punkrockerin, Elvis-Imitatorin, Kabarettsängerin geben, die als „Punk" unter Schönbergs Schülerinnen bekannt ist und sich Zeit ihres Lebens Konventionen widersetzte.

 

Auch in diesem Jahr arbeiten wir, kurzfristig geplant, mit dem Jazz-Institut zusammen und begrüßen das Duo YUWO, das auf dem Cello und Klavier eine klangliche Brücke zwischen Eigenkompositionen und Jazzstandards baut.

 

Sängerinnen aus der Fakultät Darstellende Kunst werden Lieder von Florence Price zusammen mit Pianisten aus der Musikfakultät vortragen. Wir freuen uns sehr über diese Zusammenarbeit!

 

Mit "Concerto Grosso" der belizisch-britischen Komponistin Errollyn Wallen wird ein Orchesterstück für Streichinstrumente und Solo-Violine, -Klavier und -Kontrabass aufgeführt, das auf die musikalische Form des Concertos Bezug nimmt und diese modern interpretiert.

 

Kommt vorbei und  genießt mit uns einen inspirierenden und energetischen Abend mit toller Musik!

"Concerto Grosso" by Errollyn Wallen

 

The Piano Trio by Dika Newlin will unfortunately not be performed; we will, however, be exploring her person and her work. There will be an introduction to the life of the composer, musicologist, professor, pianist, punk rocker, Elvis impersonator and cabaret singer, who is known as the ‘punk’ among Schönberg's students and who defied conventions throughout her life.

 This year, we are once again collaborating with the Jazz Institute. The duo YUWO will build a sonic bridge between original compositions and jazz standards on the cello and piano.

 Singers from the Faculty of Performing Arts will perform songs by Florence Price together with pianists from the Faculty of Music. We are very excited about this collaboration!

 "Concerto Grosso" by the Belizean-British composer Errollyn Wallen is an orchestral piece for string instruments and solo violin, piano and double bass that refers to the musical form of the concerto and interprets it in a modern way.

 76% of the works played by orchestras worldwide are by white, dead men. We want to change that! Come along and enjoy an inspiring and energetic evening of great music with us.

We hope for an evening that will stimulate an examination of accepted conventions, such as the musical canon, and suggest a perspective of unlearning. A more diverse programme/teaching is not only an enrichment of the concert business, it is a necessity for the survival of art music!
