Open Position - Research Associate (f/d/m) 100% (prae-doc) – HCC-WM25-1
News from Oct 23, 2024
We are looking for a new team member for the HCC research group. The contract starts 01.01.2025 and is limited to 3 years (13 TV-L FU).
Identifier: HCC-WM25-1Application deadline: 13.01.25
We, the Human-Centered Computing Research Group (HCC) at Freie Universität Berlin, aim to contribute to society by addressing emerging technological challenges from a human-centered perspective and exploring meaningful interaction concepts, particularly in the area of Human-AI Collaboration.
In our interdisciplinary research, we apply empirical approaches from Human-Centered Design to examine the assumptions and impacts of technologies on people. We are committed to actively involving people and their perspectives in our research to promote participatory and value-based technology design. We strive to make our research results reproducible and openly accessible to enable all interested parties to develop solutions for scientific, societal, and individual challenges.
Our work environment
- We support you in realizing your dissertation project in the field of human-computer interaction with a focus on human-centered technology development in digital healthcare.
- We promote your scientific development (e.g., through conference participation, summer schools, and research seminars), help you strengthen your analytical skills and knowledge, and expand your network.
- We are committed to open-source software, open science, and free access to knowledge.
- We offer an open, interdisciplinary, and dynamic working environment where all people with diverse backgrounds and experiences are welcome.
- We provide regular team exchanges to foster your skills.
Field of Activity
Are you interested in researching human-centered interaction concepts that can support people in making informed decisions about how their health data is used?
As a research assistant (m/f/d) in the HCC research group, you will have the opportunity to investigate precisely this question as part of the BMBF-funded research project EMPOWER-U, which is investigating meta-consent as a consent model for responsible data use in digital healthcare. Central to this research project is the design and implementation of behavioral science experiments in the field of human-computer interaction, which are intended to expand our understanding of the extent to which such consent user interfaces are able to evoke a sense of empowerment in users. The findings from the experiments will be incorporated into the development of prototype user interfaces, which will subsequently be tested in a study with patients at Charité Berlin.
Recruitment requirements:
Completed scientific university degree with M.Sc./M.Ed. in Computer Science, Human Factors or comparable degree in a related field.
Your skills (preferred):
Knowledge in or interest in one or more of the following areas:
- Experience in conducting empirical research using quantitative methods. In particular, experience in planning (e.g. hypothesis generation, study design), conduction and statistical analysis of experiments.
- Experience with statistical analysis and data processing tools, especially in R or Python.
- Basic knowledge of user interface design and previous experience with prototyping tools (e.g. Figma).
- Ability to work in a team both internally with HCC teammates and in collaboration with project partners.
- Ability to work independently on scientific topics.
- Very good written and spoken German and English skills.
