Biomedical Data Science (BDS)
The Biomedical Data Science group of Prof. Dr. Katharina Jahn develops computational and statistical methods for the analysis, integration and interpretation of biomedical omics data in particular single-cell data. These techniques are primarily applied in the field of cancer research. The main focus of the group is the study of intra-tumor heterogeneity, particularly the clonal evolution of tumors and the detection of mutational patterns at subclone level. Through this work, we intend to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of cancer biology, leading to improved diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic strategies for cancer patients.
The group regularly offers projects for research internships, bachelor and master theses in the following areas:
- statistical models and algorithms for omics data analysis,
- machine learning for omics data analysis (particularly singe-cell data),
- the study of intra-tumour heterogeneity and tumour evolution,
- algorithms for phylogeny reconstruction.
