Moritz Zitzow:
Using Storytelling to Create Visualizations for a Given Dataset
Contents
This thesis compares different approaches to storytelling in visualization, with a focus on static versus dynamic transitions. By building on existing research and demonstrating a practical example of how to design a combination of visualization and storytelling using real-world data, this study seeks to contribute to the field of visualization and storytelling. The research question is: "How can storytelling methods be applied in practice to communicate a message effectively through data visualization?" The study will follow a human-centered design process, involving literature review, data analysis, and the creation of a storytelling visualization based on a dataset from student evaluations at the Freie Universität Berlin. The expected contributions of this study include a practical example of how to create a storytelling visualization and the identification of key aspects of storytelling in data visualization.
