Joint environmental action within environmental or climate movements is a form of collective action, which is of paramount importance in implementing possible pathways to mitigate climate change, a problem which cannot be tackled by individuals alone.
My research examines the social dynamics underlying environmental movement participation from micro to macro level. To build a conceptual model of movement participation, personal drivers and group-based processes were investigated on the basis of a literature review and qualitative data. Finally, on the macro level, potential contributions of joint environmental action to social tipping are highlighted.
