Zentrum für vertrauenswürdige Künstliche Intelligenz
The "Center for Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence" (ZVKI) is funded by the Ministry of Environment and Consumer Protection (BMUV, https://www.bmuv.de/) and serves as an interface between science, industry, politics, and civil society for all consumer-relevant aspects of artificial intelligence (AI). The ZVKI is part of the German federal government's digital strategy (https://digitalstrategie-deutschland.de/digitale-zivilgesellschaft/) and develops nationwide consumer information campaigns. At the same time, foundational AI research and scientific analyses are initiated and conducted, a certification scheme for trustworthy AI is developed, and a broad network for consumer information is established with the goal of developing and providing policy recommendations.
The specific goal of the research work at FU Berlin is to develop theoretical and technical foundations for the implementation of AI system requirements regarding security/robustness, protection of personal data, and explainability/transparency. These are developed in close cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institutes AISEC and IAIS. Another focus of FU Berlin's work is the development of initial certification schemes for AI systems concerning the aforementioned requirements.
