Office for Networking and Research Projects
Over the years, the raising of third-party funds has grown into a central task for researchers at universities. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science here at Freie Universität Berlin has lately been very successful: In cooperation with donors like the „Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft“ (DFG), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research or the European Commission, the department was able to raise funds in the double-digit million area.
The Geschäftsstelle für Verbundprojekte – the Office for Networking and Research Projects – is in charge of managing and coordinating the major projects funded by third-parties in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Within its thematic framework, the Office facilitates communication between the Freie Universität Berlin and other universities, government agencies, research foundations and private enterprises. It establishes and maintains networks in order to help advance innovative and applied research and education. Berlin’s research infrastructure provides ideal conditions for such networks, making Berlin one of the outstanding researching environments in Germany.
For its projects, the Office for Networking and Research Projects is responsible foradministrative tasks, including matters of personnel and allocation of funds. A priority is the service-oriented and quick processing of all inquiries from researchers, guests and partners. Another focal task is the optimal distributing of allocated funds and a professional documenting and record keeping in preparation for audits by the external donors.
